Traditional business plans are formal documents outlining a business’s goals, how owners intend to achieve them, and how long it may take to reach those goals.

A good business plan helps clarify a strategy, identify potential roadblocks, determine needed resources, and evaluate the viability of an idea before launching a business.

Abraham Lincoln once said, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”

Preparation is essential to any plan. However, I’ve discovered the Creator of the Universe knows far more than any strategist ever could!

Much more personal than a business plan is God’s plan for our lives. In Jeremiah 29:11, He declares, “For I know the plans I have for you,” plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future."

Zach Williams sings about God’s plan in a way that touches my heart: He had a plan even when we couldn’t see it, with hope and a promise for our lives, walking beside us every step of the way.

I had to smile at Woody Allen’s quote: “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.”

How true!

As we face difficult situations, we can take comfort in knowing God is still at work. Even when our circumstances don’t make sense, He can work through our struggles, redirect our steps, and bring purpose from what feels like a detour.

Zach Williams captures this truth so honestly in his song, reminding us there is no broken dream God cannot redeem and He is faithful to complete what He begins.

God’s plan offers us hope, a future, and the promise of His presence along the way. His idea of prosperity may not always look like our own, but we can trust His wisdom, His timing, and His unfailing love.

What an extraordinary plan it is!

A Closing Thought

Perhaps the best plan we can make each morning is to surrender our own agenda to the One who sees the whole picture. We may not know what lies around the next bend, but we can trust the One who does.

So, sharpen your axe, make your plans, and take the next step in faith. Then leave room for God to surprise you!

After all, His plans are always worth trusting—even when they look nothing like ours.
