Every morning when I open my eyes, my gaze is drawn to the magnificent tabletop mountain just beyond my window. It never fails to fill me with wonder.

Perhaps that's why I love the saying, "The mountains are calling, and I must go." Even John Denver captured the comfort and security of the mountains when he sang about his "Mountain Mama."

In winter, its blanket of snow reminds me no matter what is happening on the valley floor, the mountain remains unchanged. It stands tall, steady, and unshaken—a powerful symbol of strength and stability.

The psalmist understood that feeling well. "The mountains will bring peace to the people..." (Psalm 72:3). And again, "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God" (Psalm 90:2).

As breathtaking as the mountain is, I realize it isn't the mountain that gives me peace. It is the Creator of the mountain who strengthens my heart. The One who fashioned every peak is infinitely greater than the challenges that tower before me.

Big Daddy Weave expresses this truth so beautifully: "Sometimes my life just don't make sense at all. When the mountains look so big and my faith just seems so small. So hold me, Jesus... You've been King of my glory; won't You be my Prince of Peace? I surrender all. Come be my Prince of Peace."

Today, whatever mountain stands before you, lift your eyes beyond it. The God who created the mountains is greater than every obstacle, every uncertainty, and every fear. When you fix your eyes on Him, you'll discover the peace that never shifts, never crumbles, and never fades.

Questions to ponder

Am I focusing more on the size of my mountains or the greatness of the God who made them?

What burden do I need to surrender today so Christ can truly become my Prince of Peace?

Lord, May our hearts find rest today as we remember that while mountains are impressive, You who spoke them into existence, and You are our only everlasting refuge. Amen.
