This summer, I felt like a prisoner in my own home. Not because of the weather or the noise or even the company I wasn’t yet prepared for—but because I had no water. Something I had always taken for granted was suddenly gone. A failed well pump had shut everything down.
Rain poured outside while my list of outdoor chores was washed away. Inside, the situation wasn’t much better. With no water, cleaning was pointless. The plumbers worked for five long hours, coming and going, while vacuuming seemed useless amid the muddy boots and dripping tools. My to-do list was rendered helpless.
As I tried to make the most of the day—listening to devotionals, reading, catching up on texts, and eventually grabbing a bite to eat—something deep inside of me finally cried out: “Just give me my water back!”
That desperate longing echoed something far greater. Jeremiah 17:13 says, “O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who forsake You will be put to shame… for they have forsaken the fountain of living water, even the Lord.”
In the Old Testament, water symbolized God's blessing and provision, and in the New, Jesus took it further—using water as a powerful metaphor for the Holy Spirit. “Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (John 7:38)
Jesus offers water that doesn’t just quench for a moment—it transforms forever. When He spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well, He promised water that would satisfy eternally. That water is the Holy Spirit—a divine wellspring that nourishes our spiritual lives and fills the deepest dry places in our souls.
